Surface Research

this class was very literal which was surprising considering that after going to the other classes i wasn't really sure to expect based on the class titles alone. taking all three of the studio classes surprisingly didn't allow the specialization of this studio class to bleed over with the other studio classes. if you were intending on going into a painting related concentration then this class was definitely for you. we used mediums that allowed us build up on flat surfaces which was new to me. we experimented with acetate which i found fun because you could layer the hell out of your idea. we played around with concepts of line, shape, and form.

again if you had intended on going into painting and printmaking this class could have easily taken the cake for you but being that i am not, this class fell in a gray area for me. interesting but not quite enough. our teacher was probably the only thing that kept me from really not liking this class. i liked the fact that we got to be really loose/experimental with the projects that we were taking on. a friend of mine, who is also interested in graphics, became very fascinated with painting which i feel like is a good thing for afo. everyone has had a completely different high school or college art experience some of which didn't involve certain mediums so the fact that afo lets you at least get your feet wet in the majority of them is A+
